1) Write 3 pages of a free-flow journal

After the processing session, write a 3-page free flow journal about it. It’s best to do this a few hours after the process, as soon as possible after you get home that same day. If you’re not able to do so, get it done first thing the next morning.

Journaling helps to crystallize your learnings and realizations from your process, and allows for some integration as well. It can also help you find a linkage back to your current situation.

Through the free-flow journal, you may also discover what you need to work on next, such that you can further evolve yourself.

2) Take time to reflect on this: Moving forward, what’s next for me?

You can ask yourself this question while you are journaling, and uncover the answers as you write.

Alternatively, one to two days after your processing session, set aside some time for yourself, find a quiet place with minimal distractions, and reflect on your goals and what’s next for you. Have a pen and paper with you, so you can take down some notes.

It could be a simple as a small change in your lifestyle, such as writing down your goals and pasting them up where you can see them everyday, or reducing time spent on things that take up your energy unnecessarily, or developing a new habit.

Here’s a sample of how journaling and reflecting on what’s next may look like:

From the process, I realized I made a vow: “I will never do well in anything”. I saw how this has affected my confidence whenever I’m expected to deliver results in my studies and work, that I don’t acknowledge myself when I’ve done well in something. Moving forward, every night before I sleep, I will spend 15 minutes to reflect on the day’s work, and take note of all the instances, big or small, where I’ve done something well. And if there are things I haven’t done well or can be done better, I will write down how I can improve on them for the next day. During the day, whenever I hear that voice in my head saying “I never do well in anything”, I will read my record of things done well, and the ways to do better, and use that as a way to stop the voice from affecting my confidence.

3) Create a project to support you in taking that next step forward

Now that you have more clarity on what to work on, determine one specific area that you can turn into a project for the next four weeks.

Numerous research has shown it takes 21 days to form a habit, so having a simple project for the next month can create a solid foundation for permanent change in your life.

This project should include your goal by the end of four weeks, and encompass the specific actions you’re going to take.

It’s best to finalize your project plan within 2 days after the processing session, so you can best utilize the energy you’ve gained, and ride its momentum to start your project powerfully.

Tips for setting your project:

1. Set a specific goal that you intend to achieve by the end of four weeks. From there, work backwards to figure out your weekly milestones toward achieving this goal. After that, set specific and measurable goals for each day of the week that allow you to hit your milestones.

2. Ensure that your overall goal and weekly milestones are measurable, and realistic in relation to your current situation.

3. Your project doesn’t need to be complicated. The best structure is to have one task that you can execute daily, and by the end of the month, you would have made daily progress and achieved your goal.

4. Give yourself daily tasks that fit in with your lifestyle, but with a little stretch. For example, if you want to get into the habit of waking up an hour earlier and you’re used to getting up at 9.30am, start with 9.15am for the first week, then 9.00am for the second week, the 8.45am for the third week, and 8.30am for the fourth week.

5. At the beginning of your project, focus on fulfilling one simple task on a daily basis. When you have managed to fulfil it daily for 2 weeks, you can then add on a second task, or take this first task to the next level. It’s best to start simple and not overwhelm yourself. You’ll have better results when you just focus on one specific area consistently, rather than trying to do 10 things poorly at the same time.

6. Create fun ways to get your daily task done, and where possible, fold it into what you’re already working on.

7. Team up with others who are also working on their own project, so you have at least one other buddy to journey with, and you can support one another toward your respective goals.

8. Allow yourself to have small celebrations when you achieve your weekly goals, and plan for a bigger celebration at the end of four weeks.

Bonus tip about clutters

We all have little things in our lives that pile up over time, which can be time-consuming to clear. However, it’s important to clear these clutters consistently, because when they accumulate in the long run, they can create further inconveniences in our life that eat up even more time and energy.

Sometimes your next step moving forward after processing isn’t so much about creating a project to change something, but rather to clear existing things that have been unnecessarily taking up your time and energy.

Here’s what you can do about them:

1. Make a list of clutters that you have.
2. Create a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most difficult, and 1 being the easiest.
3. Rate each of your clutters. With larger clutters, you can further break them down into smaller more manageable clutters.
4. Set aside time each day to clear some clutters.
5. It’s best to start with a more difficult clutter. With the newly gained energy from processing, you don’t want to spend it on the easier tasks. And when you have cleared a bigger clutter, you will gain back energy as well that you can channel into the next difficult clutter, and so on.

So these are some ways you can best utilize the energy you’ve gained back after processing, to propel yourself forward toward your goals.

We hope this has been valuable for you!

Here’s why we sharpen our senses #beingshaman https://liveyourmark.com/heres-why-we-sharpen-our-senses-beingshaman/ Fri, 27 Apr 2018 14:36:16 +0000 https://liveyourmark.com/?p=11816 One of the things we tend to forget in our busy-ness of living and our need to create a modern human society is that we forget we are embedded within a natural world. Sure, we have conquered the natural world with our cleverness and our technological advances, but fundamentally, we are still dependent on the natural world. No matter how advanced we become, we cannot remove ourselves totally from it. And there is a lot more consciousness now about the damage we have caused the natural world. To put it simply, if we don’t love our environment, we won’t have an environment to love us back. We might not think much about the plastic trash bag that gets taken away dutifully by the trash collector, but a trash bag left in nature remains in nature for a very long time.

The delicate balance between nature and humans give us an insight of how we are connected to our earth and how our earth is connected to us. It goes beyond our awareness of how we are damaging the world; it is also how our evolution has been impacted by the increasing disconnection we have with nature.

If we lived in nature, and we are immersed in it, relying on our natural senses would be second nature to us. We will pay more attention to the wind and the sun, to how the crops are growing, how the rains are, how there is too little earth.

But we no longer have access to that kind of exposure now as a person living in a modern society.

Which also means that our senses have become dulled.

We are no longer in tune with nature and its cycles.

So just like how it is second nature now go to the gym to keep our physical body fit, and how we are on the constant search for lifehacks to make our lives better, consciously creating practices to keep our senses sharp also need to be in place.

No longer can we rely on “nature” because naturally, honing our senses isn’t going to happen. Hence it becomes a conscious choice to bring back sharpening our senses through training.

Sharpen your senses through shamanic training now.

A new perspective on the cycle of life #beingshaman https://liveyourmark.com/your-question-answered-the-cycle-of-life-beingshaman/ Fri, 20 Apr 2018 08:33:00 +0000 https://liveyourmark.com/?p=11776 The circle is a basic geometric shape that equalizes.

When people gather in groups around a circle formation, a circular form of leadership is formed. Be it a bonfire or a corporate table or dining table. By coming together, everyone seated in the circle has equal share in that circle to participate in the activity – be it the sharing of stories or wisdom, decision-making and solution creation, or enjoying a delicious feast.

But of course, not everyone had the same merit to be in the circle. But in a circle formation, no one is denied their right to be present and to display themselves. This equalizing effect is extremely powerful, as it equalizes man and woman, boss and employee, parent and child, and so on. No other geometric shape creates a similar effect.

In nature, we can tell the age and health of a tree by counting its tree rings. In life, we can tell how a person lives via his socio-economic circle.

Likewise, the circle also represents the circle of life which we humans are part of. How we are part of the Great Wheel of Life and how the Great Wheel of Life is present in all of us.

From the natural water cycle to the cycle of creation and destruction in nature, the Great Wheel of Life is also linked to the love circle – how the care and intuition we have for the people and the world around us comes back to us in the form of reciprocal love.

And it doesn’t end there. We can also speak of the Great Wheel of Life being our life journey. From the moment we are born, and then onwards when we start to travel, when we follow our energies to different places and experiences, when we die.

So the Great Wheel of Life has to do with the equality of things, the harmony of things, and the cycle of things. And it is as real as it was hundreds of years before, and will continue to be, hundreds of years from now.

And when we study the circle, we understand the circle. We understand life cycles, we learn how to identify life patterns too. And this becomes the way in which we interact with the world.

What nature tells us about success#beingshaman https://liveyourmark.com/what-nature-tells-us-about-successbeingshaman/ Fri, 13 Apr 2018 03:51:15 +0000 https://liveyourmark.com/?p=11748 When you come across something like that, what do you see?

Oftentimes, we like to see nature as a series of harmonies blended together in zen-like tranquility.

No.

That is not quite the picture.

The harmonization is an idolization.

Things are not “at peace”. In fact, things are in constant conflict.

The trees and plants you see in the picture are constantly fighting for sunlight and resources. The land is constantly fighting with gravity. The river is in constant conflict with the earth. The natural law for survival puts prey and predator in a constant fight against each other. And even within tribes, animals constantly fight for position and power.

And yet, everything that you see is… successful.

What harmony really is a function of things that are successful negotiating with each other how they should co-exist. Just like how the word, “peace” is defined in the directory as freedom from disturbances. What is often left unsaid is how peace is also the successful negotiation of the disturbances and disruptions that happen in our lives, rather than avoidance or delusional tactics that gives us a false sense of peace.

The challenge with living in an modern-urban world is that human society has evolved into a complexity till it is pretty much impossible to tell what is the direction for success, let alone tell what is success.

As the result, many people get lost in the map of human society – and therefore many can no longer see, nor experience, nor directly access success. To a point that we doubt and even reject success and possibilities happening to us when they do show up.

From a shamanic point of view, it is easy for Shamans to have a sense of orientation what is successful because it is all there. Shamans live in a world where they constantly see, experience and learn how to be successful. From how animals negotiate for homes in the forest to how a river negotiates the earth  in its journey to the sea. Now, wouldn’t those life lessons be worth having?

What earth, fire, water and air got to do with modern day living?#beingshaman https://liveyourmark.com/what-earth-fire-water-and-air-got-to-do-with-modern-day-livingbeingshaman/ Fri, 06 Apr 2018 09:47:59 +0000 https://liveyourmark.com/?p=11716 Shamanism at the initial stages is about exploration. Fundamentally, we allow ourselves to return to an innocent, or pure or pristine state where we are able to go exploring.

It’s like what happened to the first time you encountered water as a child? The amount of joy you had playing with it, and exploring it, and interacting with it to understand its properties? Or the first time you had a BBQ and you were fascinated with the open fire – despite your parents’ warnings, and you just had to touch that flame… Or the fun times making mud pies – mixing earth with water and leaving it out in the sun, allowing the sun to remove the water and baking it into works of art…

Exploration cultivates in you a certain curiosity about the world. As you begin to explore this curiosity again, it is a way to re-ignite your curiosity about how things work, how things are, how things are structured and what’s behind certain forces.

One useful application of Shaman work is that you can see the world and see your life through Shamanic eyes in everything you do.

For instance, many people find it a challenge to link Shaman work with a business. What do they have in common?

Well, people who are more earthy-like form the foundation for the business to grow on. They are the ones who are the bedrock, the steadiness, taking on order and thriving in systems and accountability for the business. The people who have fire as an element are the ones who are often seen driving the business. They are the ones with passion and love for the business, and they represent the desire for success. The people who are inclined to water are the ones who facilitate and flow among the people to make things easier. They are the flexible ones who harmonize and rally cohesiveness within the business, and are able to jump in and take on any role that the business needs. Whereas people who tap into their air element qualities are those who focus on reaching out to the world, in roles such as marketing and business expansion to communicate what the business stands for to the world. Being shaman allows us to understand the world in simplistic ways that are yet still functional because ultimately, the elements form a balance and harmony of the world.

Immerse into a world beyond you#beingshaman

Forming a map that taps into the Shamanic work allows us to see the world in a way that makes sense without having to go through complicated terms and modernistic frameworks that are more pseudo-scientific than anything else.

The discipline to be able to see things for what they are in its simplicity allows us to deal with things in simple ways. That is the way of the Shamanic world.

How Do You Deal With Difficult People? https://liveyourmark.com/how-do-you-deal-with-difficult-people/ Thu, 25 Jan 2018 04:21:29 +0000 https://liveyourmark.com/?p=11349 The liar, the cynic, the needy, the control-freak, the flake, the manipulator, the show-off, the envious, the pretender, the arguer…

There’s no easy way to put this across: this article isn’t going to be easy to read.

Life is difficult. There is no doubt everyone is going to run into people who will come across as difficult at some point or other. You might be dealing with a liar, who is constantly inconsistent, or the cynic, who is always pessimistic about everything, or the attention-and-validation-seeking needy person who will want you to give them what they want… all the time.

Not everyone you are going to meet in your life is going to be someone you like and can work with; and not everyone you meet is going to like you and can work with you. Sometimes, we are going to meet people in our lives that we cannot change – like difficult bosses or a difficult in-law.

Being with a difficult person is… difficult. A difficult person can make you defensive. You might find it difficult to constantly stop yourself from punching the difficult person in the face. You might find yourself giving up on, or withdrawing from the difficult person when your frustration, hurt, or fear is too much over time.

I’d like to put forward away out of this difficult situation: you can learn to better deal with difficult people in your life by focusing on your response. It isn’t as difficult as it sounds, but it will take work.

How is the person being difficult?

How you can deal with difficult people starts with recognizing how the person is being difficult.

Note I say how as opposed to why.

Focusing on the how allows us to focus on the person’s behaviors. This shifts the focus away from the person (i.e. It’s not about you but the things that you do). So the first step in dealing with difficult people is about you being able to say: “I don’t like this xxx behavior of yours”, which is very different from saying “I don’t like you. Period.

Focusing on the why tends to give us permission to be defensive. It can lead us down the path of personal justification and rationalization that seldom result in workable solutions.

So who is the person and how is the individual being difficult?

When we can control our urge to be defensive when dealing with a difficult person, we can then shift our focus on identifying the difficult persons in our lives and recognizing how they are being difficult.

Is your boss always on your back? Telling you that you are not good enough? Is your long-term friend always leaving you in the lurch? Telling you that is what friends are for? Is your mother-in-law constantly putting you down? Telling you what to do?

Being able to clearly state who is the difficult person, followed by what is the behavior we find difficult, give us excellent opportunities to examine what is really going on.

Where are the boundaries?

For some of us, dealing with difficult people begins with gaining clarity who are the difficult people in our lives. When life gets tough, it is easier to shrug our shoulders and go, Life is difficult! Everything is difficult! Here’s a challenge for you: will you be willing to re-examine this now? Are all the people in your life difficult? Who are the real baddies? Name them. Single them out. How is that person being difficult? In what ways? Spit it out.

What motivates difficult behavior?

For those who are able to pinpoint the difficult people and how they are being difficult, the next step in is about seeing what motivates the behavior that makes it come across as difficult to us. (Assuming of course, we have successfully removed our defenses and are willing to see things for what it is.)

There are different motivations that drive people to behave in certain ways, and it is these motivations that can sometimes turn difficult for us. Don’t you hate it when you are asked to do more?

Here’s some food for thought: How is it when someone asks you to do more, you hate it? If you can put that aside, what is driving that person to make you do more? And what if, just what if, in that urging you to do more, you become better at what you do? And if you are benefitting from doing more so that you become better at what you do, is the person really being difficult in the first place?

So what is really difficult?

Be warned: what you are about to read is going to get difficult.

When you encounter a difficult person, what is really happening to you?

If you secretly envy someone because that person is better than you, and when that person points out a better way to get something done, what is your response? If you are finding an excuse to label someone as being difficult because deep down, you feel insecure but you will never want to admit to it; instead you put on a pretense, you become argumentative to mask how you really feel, are you aware of what is really going on? Or, when things get too difficult for you and you feel helpless, you put yourself down in the hope that someone would come and save you… what is really going on?

When you can be honest with what’s really going on inside you, perhaps you can find new ways to deal with difficult people. Perhaps you could even find the courage to be honest with the other individual, perhaps start the process of dealing with the built-up animosity between you two as the result of certain counter-behaviors that were taken.

What will be your next move?

You don’t have to handle difficult people on your own. Find out more about how you can deal with difficult people using TruSelf Methodology

Does Life Get Harder As You Get Older? https://liveyourmark.com/does-life-get-harder-as-you-get-older/ Mon, 22 Jan 2018 03:08:00 +0000 https://liveyourmark.com/?p=11304

A newborn baby takes its first breath as soon as s/he is born. From that moment forward, s/he will continue to breathe, in order to live in this world. With each milestone, s/he will need to overcome barriers in order to learn new skills, new words, and new behaviors in order to navigate the world s/he is in. Is it hard for the baby? Definitely.

So is this a fact that life gets harder as you get older? Or is this a rhetorical question?

Let’s take it further. It is often said that being a teenager is hard. Young, full of life and energy, yet unsure of who they are, and with little or no money to do all the things they want to do; plus, the need to seek parents’ approval…

And then teenagers begin to apply themselves… i.e., they start to grow up. They gain skills necessary that gives them independence. They learn how to earn enough money to afford self-paid holidays, to pay for further education, to buy a car, a house, or whatever they want.

Is life still considered hard? Ask any adult, and the most likely answer is, yes, life is hard as an adult.

Life is hard because they might have the means to have what they want as adults, but they might not have the energy after slogging the whole day to do all or enjoy all the things they want. They might not have freedom while juggling with being responsible for family, for staff, and so on. And so when a person hits beyond 60… perhaps freedom comes when a person retires, but living can become hard when the physical body starts to deteriorate…

So life IS hard.

But is it necessarily true that life gets harder as you get older?

Not so.

How I see it is that the hardship factor is determined not by age or time. The hardship factor is determined by a person’s ability and capability to ride through it. For example, a baby who is just learning how to sit up will find walking hard; versus a 5 year old child who has the ability to walk and the stamina to walk over long distances will not find walking hard.

When I sit back and think about the “hard” times I have been in, one thing consistent shows up: the hard times usually coincide as defining moments in my life; moments when I was “forced” to think outside the box for new solutions, moments when I asked myself, what I really wanted, moments when I had to look deep within me to find the inspiration or the motivation to steer me towards the course I want to be on. In exchange for the hardship, I gained new skills, knowledge and wisdom.

Just imagine going through financial difficulties. I personally have missed paying my bills on time and I’ve learned from those mistakes. After getting hit with those devastating late fees, I took steps to ensure that I would never miss another deadline again. So far, I haven’t. It is safe to say that I have learned my lesson.

What Do You Do When Everyone Feels Too Difficult? https://liveyourmark.com/what-do-you-do-when-everything-feels-too-hard/ Sat, 20 Jan 2018 06:39:16 +0000 https://liveyourmark.com/?p=11288

The beauty of life is about the different kinds of people we come across every day whether it is at work, at home or any social setting. Different people color our world, which would be a boring place if all people behaved alike. Humans are social beings and in one way or another, we are tangled in different kinds of relationships. However, despite all our efforts to be the best person we can be, we are forced to deal with difficult people and the challenging relationships that develop from our interaction with these people. The truth is, you will come across a difficult person at some point in your life, or maybe you are dealing with one right now. However, if you are surrounded by difficult people from all angles, you are probably meeting all the wrong people and should reevaluate your way of forming relationships.

Types of difficult people

A difficult person can be from work, such as a boss who you have no idea how to deal with since everything you do is not satisfactory to them. This kind of difficult person is known as the tank, known for being confrontational, pushy and aggressive. It also could be a parent whose opinions always seem to differ from yours or feel they need to give you advice on every move you make in your life. These kinds of people are known as the think-they-know-it-all. Sometimes, your friends can be difficult in such a way that they seem to have negative opinion about your every move and have nothing positive to say, known as the cynic. Difficult people come in different forms, and behave very differently. There are those who always lie to get their way or manipulate you by targeting your weakness to their advantage. Others are toxic and carry a cloud or negative energy around them all the time and end up being needy and clingy. There are also those with bad temperament, the temperamentals, who react to the least form of provocation such that you feel as if you are walking on eggshells when around them. Last but not least, there is the unreasonable type who won’t use logic and reasoning to find solutions; known as the No-person.I am sure from the list above, you can relate a situation where you have dealt with such a person and remember how frustrated you were.

How is this person being difficult?

Difficult people exhibit some consistent behaviors that you can observe. For example, when you have a difficult boss who is proving difficult to work with, there are some behaviors you can observe. Your boss could be making unreasonable demands and failing to listen to other people’s opinions. In a situation that calls for combined effort such as completing a certain project, your boss could be uncooperative by failing to provide the necessary resources, or always pointing out problems and never offering solutions for them; always  poking holes on your boat and yet they are demanding results of very high standards, who we refer to as an agendist. Working with such a person can be very frustrating and you may find yourself reacting in the most unfavorable and unsuitable way for the work place.

How we react to difficult people

The most natural way that you react to such people is by resisting them, which does not always yield good results. Resisting your boss will only make things harder for you at work, and you can only resist your parents or friends for so long. Difficult people around you make you defensive and irritable. Sometimes your day can be ruin as you end up having spent a whole day in a foul mood just because you interacted with this difficult person in the morning.

How to identify a difficult person

It is important to be able to differentiate between a difficult and a result driven person. In the case of your boss, differentiating the two can help you learn how to manage the situation. For example, a boss who is always pushing you to do better may not necessarily be a difficult person, since in the end; you find that you benefit from this push to become a highly productive person. On the other hand, someone who is always pointing out your weak areas and not helping you improve them is a difficult person that is always dragging you down, known as a cynic.

Dealing with difficult people

How you react to a difficult person affects you positively or negatively. As aforementioned, reacting can ruin your day or make you lose important people in your life. On the other hand, responding in a positive way can help you create a fruitful relationship with the difficult person. It is important to note that your attitude is everything; you can choose to take a difficult situation positively or negatively. You are in control of how these people affect you; you can choose to emerge the winner or loser. Before you respond to a difficult person, it is important to study yourself, and study the situation so as to come up with the best way to respond. Here are some ways through which you can deal with difficult people.

Being understanding

Since you cannot avoid difficult people entirely, it is important to be understanding of why the person is being difficult. For example, a boss may be unreasonable and refuse to accept other people’s opinions just because they are insecure about their abilities and leadership talents. By understanding this, you can learn how to pass your opinion to the boss in a way that does not undermine their authority.

Pause, breathe and think before responding

As mentioned earlier, you are in control of how a difficult person affects you. Since you cannot control the other person, you can control yourself. It is therefore important for you to take a pause, breathe and think before responding to them. This way, the response you give will not make the situation worse than it is; instead, it will be coming from a point of understanding and may help solve the problem at hand.

Seek help

Lastly, seek help on how to deal with difficult people. There is no one absolute solution for dealing with difficult people, but you can arm yourself with knowledge and tactics such that you are always prepared should such situations come up, or if you are dealing with such right now. For example, there are courses, workshops and seminars on how to deal with difficult people that you can enroll in, and self-equip with this life skill. It will come in handy at work, at home and with your other relationships as well as helping you not to become a difficult person to others.

My Secret to Being Happy https://liveyourmark.com/secret-to-happiness/ Tue, 06 Jun 2017 04:33:46 +0000 https://liveyourmark.com/?p=9953 Coaching program on achieving happiness

It takes more than just putting a smile on your face.

Society places too much focus on being happy, rather the meaning of being happy. When a friend looks sad, we automatically ask “what’s wrong?”. Being happiness has become a natural part of our learned behaviour. So much so that a lot of us do not stop to think, what is ‘being happy’? It is definitely more than just a smile on one’s face.

Being happy is about one’s contentment with life – an acceptance of your situation. Think of it as the emotional state’s equivalent to enlightenment. Before we even address the secret of being happy, it is important to know what is making you unhappy. Addressing that helps in paving the pathway to happiness. Different people have their own unique experiences in life. This means my road to happiness could be vastly different from yours. It is a common misconception we make when we read self-help books or take advice from our heroes.

Life coaching unlocks your child-like happiness

Another major mistake we make is viewing happiness as black or white. We try to categorise our experiences into two dichotomies – right and wrong, good and bad. We feel a diverse range of emotions on a spectrum. Rather than boxing up ‘happy’, it is important to perceive that being happy can take many forms. That being said, happiness to me, is a choice. A conscious decision. A deliberate preference to letting go. That is the one point a lot of self-help books agree on.

sad child

How to be Happy

What is my secret to being happy? Letting go does have a lot to do with it. Happy people are a special group who have mastered this art. One of the many reasons why we can never find happiness is that we constantly compare ourselves with our peers. Who has the better job, the higher salary or the happier family. In the process, we forget what it is like to be ourselves while we worry about our situation.

Here are some aspects of our lives to let go:

1. Letting go of what others think about you

Getting approval from others restricts you from being yourself. This self-imposed constraint prevents you from living the life you were meant to lead. Placing yourself in a cage for the sake of approval is unhealthy as you lose sight of who you are.

2. Letting go of the future problems

Being prepared is great. The problem is when you want to control every aspect of your life, including the future. Which is why a lot of us worry about what might happen instead of focusing on what is happening right now.

Worry less about the future – you may never know if it will come to pass. So simply relax and allow things to take its course. You will be happier for it.

3. Letting go of comparing yourself

We are all made differently, with unique backgrounds and experiences. Yet we cannot help compare ourselves to one another. The culture of rivalry is an unintended consequence from a meritocratic society. So why do we keep doing this to ourselves? Seeing other’s level of success and comparing us to them is not going to keep us satisfied with our current job, relationship status and life itself.

There you have it. The three major ways to be on your way to being happy. But remember, you need to master the art of letting go. That is my secret to being happy.

It is a Friday night and your friend asks you to go along with them to meet their other friends. You’ve never met them before and why would you want to spend your night making small talk? Why catch up with your friend in-person when you can do the same over a Whatsapp?

Find yourself making these similar excuses?

This is the story of Steve Ong.

Steve, was a guy just like that. A conversation is just about pleasing the other person and telling them what they wanted to hear. Yes, telling them. No connection, no exchange of ideas, just passively talking to people. To Steve, this was not wrong. How can it be when he wasn’t actually doing anything wrong?

This problem was manageable until he almost lost $6 million dollars for the company he worked for. His inability to make a connection with his client, to reach out to them and understand their concerns was what almost cost him his job. It was then that he realised that his inability in making a connection with others was rooted in his confidence level.

Find Courage with Life Coaching

To gain confidence, one has to confront the fear that’s holding them back. A lot of times, courage goes hand in hand with confidence and fear. Courage is about overcoming an obstacle which you thought it wasn’t possible. The result: courage in overcoming the fear and gaining confidence.

For Steve, going through the program helped him to do just that. He and his coach worked on his challenge in relating to others and built his confidence. It was a process and Steve’s efforts showed! His opinions were respected and his performance at work skyrocketed – he was getting noticed by his boss and was offered a promotion.

As for his personal life, his relationship with friends and family got better. He not only found a way to make a connection with people, but he learned new ways to express himself. Steve was a person who did not have major flaws. Through The Courage to Create, he freed himself from his limits and got out of his comfort zone.
