4 Quick Tips to Boost Your Self-Confidence

Confident woman

I decided to visit a professional coach to discover my inner voice and work on my confidence. Everyone has their own unique way of discovering themselves, but I didn’t know where to start, so I approached a qualified individual for a private session. These are just a few practical and simple-to-follow tips that my professional coach gave me to help with my self-esteem.

Turning a Negative Into a Positive

Many times, it’s not about what someone says to me but how I can cultivate positive thoughts about what was said. We all get criticized at some point in our lives. In some cases, people look at that criticism as the truth. Even if there is a certain level of truth in the criticisms, rather than allowing those things to rule over my life and my emotions (I tended to get riled up and take them very personally), I learnt to take them as a challenge to improve myself.

Confident but not Arrogant

My coach stressed the importance of believing in myself because it is the one thing that I have control over. This new confidence is also an outward expression that other people quickly took note of. Whether it’s taking care of the type of clothes I wore, my hairstyle or simply being confident, these sorts of things helped me feel better about myself and I projected that confidence to others. We need to believe in ourselves, but we also need to be wary of the line crossing over to being overconfident, as this can be detrimental in many ways.

Beware of Perfection

Some of the most effective advice for successful living is to avoid striving for perfection. The fact is nobody is perfect and nobody will ever be perfect. We all have our detractors and if I let myself believe that perfection is attainable, I’m always going to be disappointed. Understanding that everyone has their weak points, and striving to make mine better, means that my journey towards improvement has its rewards beyond the unrealistic state of perfection.

Taking Time Out

The fact is that great inspiration or motivation to boost my self-esteem doesn’t always happen in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Sometimes, I need to take time to step back from my busy life and gain perspective. I like to make it a point to meditate or relax; in essence, I reset my brain. Once I’ve done that, I am more clear about where I am and where I’m going.
